SRT^® history begins in 1989 with Team Viper and Team Prowler. These two groups created the Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler, respectively. They merged to form Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) and then later became Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) in 2002, the creators of Street and Racing Technology (SRT).

After producing a pack of asphalt-tearing Dodge models and helping design the legendary Ram 1500 TRX and Jeep_® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk^® models, both boasting the powerful Supercharged 6.2L HEMI^® SRT Hellcat V8 engine, the SRT^® team was formally dispersed and integrated into the global engineering organization.
